Description
Using clinical scenarios, learners will become familiar with how to differentiate Duffy null Associated Neutrophil Count (DANC) from the pathological causes of neutropenia. This module also introduces learners to the biological basis and epidemiology of DANC, and how it can impact healthcare and health inequalities.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for hematologists, trainees, primary care providers, and healthcare practitioners involved in hematology and those interested in understanding the nuances of neutrophil count and Duffy status.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:- Describe the genetic basis of Duffy-associated absolute neutrophil count (DANC).
- Explain the effect of the ACKR1 mutation on neutrophils.
- Identify DANC as a clinically benign state.
- Differentiate DANC from pathological causes of neutropenia.
- Summarize the clinical challenges experienced by individuals with DANC status.
