Description
In this set of three case studies, learners will evaluate patients presenting with low ANC and determine whether they represent a clinical emergency, an urgent referral or a routine outpatient workup based on symptoms, laboratory results and history. This activity is a suitable companion to the Neutropenia Navigator algorithm and the Understanding Duffy Status and Neutrophil Count course.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this activity, learners should be able to:
- Explain when a case of low ANC represents a clinical emergency
- Explain when a case of low ANC requires urgent investigation, such as for possible malignancy
- Describe when routine workup is appropriate for a case of low ANC
